Lucy Haleâs dream of finding a greater purpose is coming to fruition.
The 36-year-old actress has been named the newest Global UN Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme (WFP), and says the opportunity is arriving at the perfect moment in her life.
âIâve been an actress for going on two decades, and I love what I do, but Iâve always had a dream of helping in a bigger way,â Hale tells PEOPLE. âWFP is the largest hunger relief program in the world, so itâs an honor to get to use my voice and platform to help others and encourage other people to do the same.â

Hale, who began working with the humanitarian organization in 2024, has a personal connection to its mission. âMy dad is a farmer, and my mom is a nurse, so I feel really passionate about supporting women and children,â she explains. âIf countries and nations are starving, they canât thrive. WFP not only gives food to people in need, but they also teach the locals how to farm their own food.â
As a global ambassador, the Pretty Little Liars star is eager to take on a more hands-on role. âI am going to go on trips and see firsthand the work that WFP does,â she says. âBut a lot of my work will be amplifying their efforts and advocating for the things that theyâre doing. I know how important my platform is and that even the smallest things can make a differenceâ getting the word out about what WFP has been doing for over 60 years.â

âItâs the honor of a lifetime,â she adds. âI hope this becomes a long and lasting partnership.â
Hale believes the impact of her role can extend far beyond her own platform. âSomeone can look at what I post, and they can get inspired, and the ripple effect of it is just really beautiful,â she says. âIt feels great to be part of something thatâs truly making a difference.â

The opportunity fulfills a long-held goal. âI feel emotional about this because Iâve always wanted to do more,â Hale says. âIâm 36 now, and the last couple of years Iâve just felt called to something bigger than myself, and I never really knew what that was. I just knew the universe would provide the path to go down, and itâs such an honor to be put into this position.â
Outside of her work with WFP, Hale finds fulfillment in quieter ways. âI find happiness in my spiritualityânot in a âwoo-wooâ way, but in being present, finding new ways to take care of myself and honoring the beautiful relationships in my life,â Hale explains.
âBeyond my career and this amazing partnership, my life is pretty simple, quiet and private,â she adds. âIâm very open about many things in my life, a lot of things Iâve been through, but the other side of my life feels very protected and pure. I like it that way.â
