Jennifer Lopez spoke about the best advice she received following her third divorce
"I was very ready to give up on everything. My life was a mess," the actress and singer told the crowd during her Las Vegas residency show on Thursday, Dec. 31

Jennifer Lopez had some words of wisdom to share with her Las Vegas residency crowd.
During the second night of her Up All Night residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday, Dec. 31, the actress and singer delivered a passionate speech to the crowd about the best advice she received after her divorce from ex-husband Marc Anthony, whom she was married to from 2004 to 2014.
After hugging the 17-year-old twins she shares with Anthony, Max and Emme Muñiz, on stage, Lopez, 56, dressed in a strapless fuchsia gown that was paired with a matching boa, spoke about being in her "happy era" and what she hoped the crowd would take away from her show that night.
In an Instagram Reel of the speech shared on Thursday, Jan. 1, the "Waiting for Tonight" hitmaker recalled a moment from the first night of her residency 10 years prior when her kids were 7 years old.

"After the show they came up to me, and they said, one of them, Max, he came up and said, 'Mommy, why don't you ever wear pants on stage?' And I thought, 'Jesus Christ, what a crazy life. This is a bizarre life, right?'" she recalled.
Lopez then told her son that it was "because I'm a showgirl and I love to dance."
"It seemed like a good excuse at the time. He was 7 years old. It was fine, but the truth is, I do, I love to dance," she said.
Lopez then shared a piece of advice she learned from her third divorce that she hoped the crowd would leave with that night.

"After my third divorce, that's when I really started getting good at [dancing], okay?" she said, before explaining she was "ready to give up on everything" until a "very wise woman" offered some wisdom.
"My life was a mess," Lopez recalled. "I was a single mom for the first time with two little 3-year old twins, and then one of my mentors, Louise Hay, said to me, 'Jennifer, you're a dancer, right?' I said, 'Yes, I am.'
Hay then asked her, "When you're learning a dance and you get the steps wrong, what do you do?" to which Lopez replied, "I just keep going until I get the steps right." Hay then told her "that was it."
"Always keep dancing," she told Lopez.
The Kiss of the Spider Woman star then imparted that same advice to her audience.
"I wish the same for you. No matter what life throws at you that you dance, and you dance and you dance. Again and again and again. I love you," she told the crowd, before launching into her 2012 hit "Dance Again" featuring Pitbull.

Lopez's third and longest marriage was to Anthony from 2004 to 2014. During that time, they welcomed twins Max and Emme.
She had been previously married to model-waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003.

The Hustlers actress was most recently married to her longtime love Ben Affleck for two years before she filed for divorce in August 2024.
A source recently told PEOPLE that Lopez is not dating and is focused on work and raising her family nearly a year after she finalized her divorce from Affleck, 53.
"It's all about work and the kids for her," the source said at the time. "She seems happy and content."
