Jennifer Lawrence is sharing why she's started talking about her two kids in interviews.

The Die, My Love actress, 35, participated in The Hollywood Reporter's Actress Roundtable and explained that while she previously vowed not to discuss her kids in interviews, she found that it was hard to not touch the subject.

"I was surprised when I started doing this because I've always been really strict about, 'I don't want to talk about my kids,' " Lawrence said. "But it's impossible not to, so I've landed on, 'I will talk about my experience as a mother.' But it did make me realize that it was not something I had considered."

Back in November, the actress spoke with W. Magazine and revealed she was pregnant with her second son while filming her new movie, Die My Life, a feat she jokingly called "real sexy family planning."

"I knew I was going to be doing the movie, and I also knew that I needed a second child before my other son got too old," Lawrence told the outlet. She added that being in the second trimester while filming was good because "in the first trimester, you're very sick; and in the second trimester, you start to feel better."

She also shared that being pregnant while filming helped her relate better to her character. Lawrence noted she understood how motherhood "takes any kind of veneer off, because now you're seeing the world through somebody else's eyes — somebody who's so much more important than you are."

Later in the interview, the actress spoke about how her perspective on parenting shifted after she went back to work once she'd welcomed her first baby, Cy Maroney, who was born in February 2022. "When I had my first child, I felt completely connected to my baby," Lawrence said. "But I also realized the world wasn't designed around that relationship."

"Suddenly you're like, 'Wait, how am I supposed to go back to work? Get in a car and drive away? Get on an airplane and fly away from my baby?' Like, what are you talking about? Everything looks different after that," the actress explained.

That same month, Lawrence spoke with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of Die My Love. In the film, she plays a new mom struggling with the weight of motherhood, and she shared that she was able to draw from her own life while tackling the role.

“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby],” Lawrence said, noting that she believes the experience provided her with a more nuanced perspective while approaching her most recent project.

“I think that just added another layer,” she explained, adding, ”I mean, I don't think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means, but having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.”
