General Hospital will pay tribute to Daytime Emmy winner Anthony Geary, who portrayed Luke Spencer for decades, following the actor’s death last year.

The official General Hospital Instagram account confirmed that the ABC series will air a special tribute episode on Friday, February 20, 2026, honoring the legendary actor.

In the caption, the show wrote, “Join us this Friday, February 20th for a very special episode of #GeneralHospital - paying homage to Luke Spencer's legacy. Don't miss it. #GH”

As Parade previously reported, the tribute was first announced by TV Insider’s Stephanie Sloan, and then confirmed again by Nathan Varni, ABC’s Head of Programming. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Varni revealed that the production team created a standalone, one-hour episode in Geary’s honor.

Writing, “An icon. A legacy. A full hour in his honor. #GH pays tribute to Tony Geary in a powerful stand-alone episode you won’t want to miss. Friday, February 20 on ABC. Next day on Hulu.”

The soap previously aired a brief montage honoring Geary at the end of its January 23, 2026 episode. Varni explained at the time, “A small montage was featured today at the end of the show. The Feb 20th episode allows us to concentrate on the full hour.”

Following Geary’s retirement in 2015, his iconic character Luke Spencer, was later written out of the series. In 2022, viewers learned that Luke had died off-screen in a cable car accident orchestrated by longtime rival Victor Cassadine.

Luke’s ex-wife, Tracy Quartermain (Jane Elliot), returned to Port Charles to deliver the news. Residents of Port Charles later gathered at Luke’s former nightclub, the Haunted Star, to honor his legacy.

In honor of Geary’s passing, General Hospital replayed his final 2015 episode on New Years Day.

For his portrayal of Luke Spencer, Geary won eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, with his first win occurring in 1982, and his final win in 2015, making him one of the most decorated actors in the genre’s history.

According to TVInsider, Geary had recently filmed scenes with his former General Hospital co-star Anders Hove (Cesar Faison) for an upcoming, unannounced, project prior to his death..

Following his departure from General Hospital, Geary lived in Amsterdam with his husband, Claudio Gama, and largely remained out of the public eye.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC, and streams weeknights on Hulu.
