Apple TV renewed Foundation for a fourth season in September 2025

Another chapter of Foundation is in the works.
One day before the season 3 finale, Apple TV renewed its hit sci-fi series based on Isaac Asimov's stories for a fourth season in September 2025.
“There is no series quite like Foundation and we feel lucky and honored to be carrying the torch forward as co-showrunners into season four,” executive producers Ian Goldberg and David Kob said in a statement.
The duo took over at the helm following co-developer and director David S. Goyer's exit in the middle of season 3, Deadline reported.
The show follows a group of exiles led by mathematician Hari Seldon (Jared Harris), who predicts the fall of the world's ruling empire. In a desperate attempt to save humanity, they form the Foundation — a colony dedicated to preserving knowledge and rebuilding civilization.
The third season showed two galactic powers coming together to fight a fearsome warlord known as The Mule (Pilou Asbæk).

What will Foundation season 4 be about?

An official logline for Foundation's fourth season hasn't been released.
Though the series is based on Asimov's stories, it's more of a loose adaptation — meaning fans likely have no idea what to expect for season 4.

"I really love how on this show we have not treated the making of the series like fan fiction," star Lee Pace, who plays multiple versions of his character Brother Day, told Wired in September 2025.
"We let the hugeness of the story that Isaac Asimov left us be on the table, and we can explore the plotlines that he wrote, plotlines that are referred to, plotlines that happen offstage, the plotlines that he discovered later in writing and realizing about the story," he continued.
When asked about what's to come, the actor said, "There's a big opportunity for the story to grow, and there are things that David has written throughout the first three seasons that if we do get to continue, there's definitely some seeds that can grow."
Who is in the cast of Foundation season 4?

Apple TV has not officially confirmed the cast for Foundation season 4.
Stars Pace, Harris and Lou Llobell are expected to return, even though Brother Day was killed at the end of season 3, along with Laura Birn's Demerzel.
Her death set Seldon's predictions into motion, and the reverberations of that should play out in the next installment.
“It did feel inevitable,” Pace said of the major deaths in a September 2025 interview with TIME. “Hari said it in the first episode: the Empire will fall. It was bound to happen: the darkness would come.”
