Sandringham was famously one of the late Queen Elizabeth’s most beloved royal estates

Former Prince Andrew appears to have used Queen Elizabeth's beloved Sandringham House for at least one Jeffrey Epstein-related encounter.

A newly released black-and-white photograph from the Department of Justice (DOJ) shows Andrew, 65, lying across the laps of several women — whose identities have been redacted — in the saloon at Sandringham, per The Times. Convicted Epstein conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell is also pictured in the photo.

Sandringham is a beloved estate for the royal family and where they typically spend Christmas and New Year's. The tradition was started by the late Queen Elizabeth in 1988.

The image is one of thousands of records from Epstein's estate released on the DOJ website on Friday, Dec. 19. It potentially sheds further light on the alleged friendship between Andrew and the late Epstein, who died by suicide 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges.

PEOPLE understands that King Charles reached his decision with the support of members of the royal family, including Prince William.

In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting sex from a minor. At that time, his friendship with Andrew was well-documented, and the two had been photographed together at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

He became legally involved in 2015, when he was named in a lawsuit against Epstein filed by victim Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre alleged that she was sex trafficked to the former prince when she was 17 and had three sexual encounters with him. Andrew has continuously denied any wrongdoing in the case.

Andrew stepped back from his duties as a working royal in November 2019 following a much- scrutinized interview with BBC's Newsnight about his alleged ties to Epstein.

In January 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped her second son of his military titles and patronages after he attempted to have Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit against him dismissed. The following month, he settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Giuffre died by suicide on April 24, 2025. She was 41.

Scrutiny of Andrew intensified after the publication of her posthumous memoir. In the book, Giuffre wrote that Andrew “believed having sex with me was his birthright."
